Are you aware that there is about 30 functions in most digital door locks? How many functions have you used in real life? Probably just opening and closing. People even use one password for years, since changing it seems like solving a difficult quest.
But we should never forget the fact that digital door lock is probably the only digitalized security device in a normal home.
Convenience, security, technology, nothing can be left out. On top of that, it is also the only device that can be seen from outside the house. Creating the design so it perfects the door and house is important as well. Building a product like this is not just hard work, it is a matter of creativeness and art.
That is why there in no R&D lab in Keyin. Instead we have a ‘Creative Lab’, focusing on developing the creative products with technology, design and user values.
HARDWARE
MATERIAL & SURFACE TREATMENT
Door lock is a ‘locking device’ in nature. But take a good lock at your door lock. With the high competition on market, most door lock manufacturers are using plastic as main material to cut the costs. Plastic melts in temperature of 150~260 degrees Celsius, leaving vulnerability to crimes using burners. Also it’s solidity is not built to be used in security devices.
All products of Keyin uses Zinc Die Casting with Nickel Plating for maximum durability and solidity. It can withstand temperature of over 450 degrees Celsius. Also it’s premium aesthetic surface makes it perfect match with door locks.
DESIGN
SHAPE & TECH
Door lock is of course a security device, but it is also a home appliance. The only home appliance seen from outside the house. Thus, it needs to be beautifully designed.
Our design philosophy is ‘restraint’. Not trying to show more, but showing only what needs to be seen, in a stylish way. Sometimes less is more in design.
We designed our lock so that the first impression is simple and stylish. Even our Keyin logo cannot be seen in the front; we wanted extreme simplicity in design. Also within this simple look, we added 3D convex volume and in mold label(decreasing bezel 60%) for rich detail.
Well seeing is worth thousand words. Look at it yourself and feel the ‘restraint design’ we pursue.
IMMEDIATE LOCKING MECHANISM
No one can argue that the basic of door lock is ‘locking.’ But not everyone knows that there is a fundamental error in this locking mechanism. Every lock now in the market senses the door closure and then operates its motor to turn into locking position. This algorithm, in nature, makes a gap of 1 to 5 seconds of motor operation time between door closure and locking.
1 second is a short time, but it can also be the difference between life and death. For example, if a stranger follows you to your home, you run into your home, slam the door and think you are safe, while in truth you are not. This stranger can easily follow you into the house by just opening the door right after you close it
PATENT
So, we in Keyin tried to rethink this locking mechanism all over again. Is this gap really necessary? Is there no way to get rid of this gap and make an immediate locking system?
This is why Creative Lab in Keyin came up with a smart latch immediate locking mechanism.
With this patented technology, the lock is locked when it should be without zero delay, not after 2 seconds.
MORTISE
Question. Which part in a door lock is the most technically sophisticated? Answer. The Mortise.
Mortise is the locking part of the lock. It can be compared to the engine in a car. Naturally there isn’t many companies making mortise in the market.
In Keyin, we have couple of masters of mortise with 20 years experience devoted to mortise development. That is why we succeeded in making our own mortise in a short period of time. Not only that, we are already into developing the next generation mortise which will enhance user values to the extreme.
Fully Automated Mortise
The mortise applied to the currently commercialized smart door lock is ‘Common Mortise’ that only operates the dead bolt.
In order to operate the latch bolt, which is the part that holds the door before the dead bolt lock the door, physical force must be applied vertically or horizontally to the door lock handle part.
Therefore, A handle should be operated manually in the case of mortise lock.
In November 2021, RAONARK developed 'Fully Automated Mortise (patent application) with instant locking function' for the first time in Korea.
Keyin's smart lock with fully automated mortise eliminates the need to turn or pull the handle anymore.
Therefore, Raonark’s Smart Lock has no handle that requires mechanical movement.
Mortis innovation has created automated door opening solution and various other customer values.
By applying the unibody method without a parting part, the durability of the product has been further strengthened, and handleless design innovation has been achieved.
In addition, we discovered a new consumer value that did not exist before:
the 'instant locking door lock’ by giving a locking function to the latch bolt, which only played the role of holding the door not locking the door.
IoT & PLUS LINK
IoT is not new in door locks. Almost every company is using IoT in one way or another. But here follows the important question: are you using it?
Our Creative Lab wanted to make something that users use daily.
We have already designed and launched IoT solution in Gateman, ASSA ABLOY, so we already know IoT alone is not enough value to users.
So we changed our thinking to a different direction.
What is true IoT?
Isn’t it the connection between devices, not just the connection of device to user?
What if we could build something that is remotely connected but physically separated. A perfect remote modular platform could be born.
This is why we made the PLUS LINK platform.
With PLUS LINK, all devices is remotely connected, meaning anyone can upgrade their lock whenever they want.
Moreover, this remote connection provides freedom to location of the device.
It can be installed wherever you want, or even carried in your pocket!
Just if you are wondering, yes we have all the previous IoT functions the other locks have. That’s just basic.
Plus LOCK (KeyinE)
PLUS LINK does not only upgrade accessories to locks. It can also upgrade the security itself.
One example is KeyinE, the Plus LOCK. Door lock ensures security when the door is closed. But what happens when the door opens? There are numerous occasions when you have to open the door unprotected. Our Creative Lab came up with a solution in which security is still enabled even when the door is opened.
With KeyinE, you have two options. Completely opening the door, or opening it secured by a door chain. And the usability is super simple. Two dedicated buttons for two situations. Simply press secured open button and the Plus LOCK will lock itself while KeyinS(the door lock) opens up. We want people to actually use it, that’s why we tried to make it as simple as it can be.
